Succession Planning

Preparing for leadership transitions will require you to choose who will continue your club’s work for the following year. Every club may require different leadership qualities to connect with its club members and campus community, and it is up to the current administration to make the final call on who to pass the torch to. Here is a brief overview of the required roles for NOC to help with your decision making:

Club President:

  • Main contact between the club, faculty advisor, and local NAMI Affiliate
  • Host regularly scheduled club meetings
  • Learn about mental health priorities and available mental health resources for students
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration with other club organizations on mental health related activities or school events
Club Secretary:
  • Inform partnering affiliate and faculty advisor of upcoming events and activities
  • Document events and meetings- photos and meeting minutes
  • Work with partnering affiliate on collaboration opportunities off campus
  • Keep a connection with school or district counseling services and other related departments
Club Treasurer:
  • Develop and oversee club budget for activities and events
  • Discuss budget planning with other club leaders
  • Identify fundraising opportunities

How to Be a Good Leader

  • Know your leadership style. Assess your strengths and weaknesses as a leader. This will allow you to succeed with the skills that you have and collaborate with others in their areas of strength
     
  • Be a role model. Members of your club will look up to you as a leader when you put your best foot forward, are fair, encourage active member involvement, & run effective meetings
     
  • Be passionate. Members will see your passion and will want to be a part of the action
     
  • Encourage creativity. Ask others for their ideas to make your club great. Keep things new & increase involvement in the activity of the members
     
  • Give recognition. Giving club members recognition will motivate them & allow them to feel appreciated ​
